Collections:

Access: To gain access to collection for research, viewing etc, people are asked to contact either Garston Phillips or the Collections Manager Phillipa Tinsley.

Key Issues: The collection at present is stored here at the City Museum basement in Foregate Street. It is not completely catalogued, but Nick Gordan did a lot in the way of documentation on the zoology and biology, whilst Rosemary Roden is and has catalogued a large majority of the geology collection. We can call on her to help with enquiries and as in the past used her wealth of knowledge when putting on temporary exhibitions. We are also putting records on ADLIB with our Documentation Officer. Certain objects are also put out on the internet on our Museums website. People who have recently used our collection as a reference point are: Local wildlife trust and biological record centre, local manufactures of porcelain, students studying biology and geology. I am hoping that in the near future that some of the more important parts of the natural science collections will be displayed in the public galleries. It would, as I am sure it is with other galleries, nice to have bigger stores!

The herbarium is currently being worked on by Roger Maskew of the Worcestershire Flora Atlas and he has unearthed many interesting facts relating to the plants in the collection. These include many records of County finds with much earlier dates than previously thought.
